HAZ ø RAN 2024 61 Çevre High School at the Zero Point of History Our trip to Göbeklitepe, which we organized with the aimof making the historical knowledge acquired by our 11th-grade students in history class more permanent, increasing their interest in the subject, and ensuring that history is learned by experiencing it through visits, has been successfully completed. In Mardin, the first stop of our trip, our students visited the Dara Ancient City, which is valued as the administrative andmilitary center of Upper Mesopotamia and is renowned as the Ephesus of Mesopotamia, and learned about the local history and mythology. After visiting the Kasımiye Madrasa, the Forty Martyrs Church, the Mardin Museum, and the Deyrul Zaferan Monastery, they had the opportunity to shop and taste local flavors in the Old Bazaar, Lower Bazaar, Spice Bazaar, and Copper Bazaar tour. In Urfa, the second stop of our trip, after the tour program including Halil- ür Rahman, the Balıklı Lake, the Ayn Zeliha Lake, the Rızvaniye Mosque, the Bedesten, and the Sipahi Market, our students experienced the entertainment of the local culture by participating in a traditional night. After visiting Göbeklitepe, which hosts the world’s oldest temple and is also listed as a World Heritage Site, our students visited the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum, which holds the title of Turkey’s largest museum, to concretize what they saw. They completed the final part of the trip by seeingHarran, which hosted the world’s first university, and the historical Harran houses with conical domes. At the end of this intense and enjoyable trip, the students of Çevre High School became aware of historical artifacts from different periods and cultures in their country, gaining consciousness about preserving cultural heritage.
