ÇEVRE HIGHLIGHTS - 30. SAYI
61 HAZ İ RAN 2026 as hospitals, energy systems, or financial institutions are involved. What path should students follow if they want to specialize in cybersecurity? Students should first build a strong foundation in three main areas: • Computer systems • Software development • Networking These subjects form the basis of cybersecurity. Without understanding how systems and networks work, it is difficult to protect them. As students explore the field further, they will discover many areas of specialization. Cybersecurity includes fields such as: • Web security • Mobile security • Cloud security • Critical infrastructure security • Digital forensics • Incident response Each area requires different skills and knowledge. Critical infrastructure security is especially important because it protects systems such as electricity, water, transportation, and banking services. Problems in these systems can affect millions of people. What should young people do if they want to build a career in cybersecurity? Which programming languages should they learn? The most important thing to learn first is algorithmic thinking and problem-solving. The specific programming language is less important than understanding how software works. However, students should become comfortable with at least one programming language. For beginners, Python and C# are good choices because they are widely used and relatively easy to learn. Although artificial intelligence can now help write code, cybersecurity professionals should still be able to write and understand code on their own. Strong programming skills remain valuable in every area of technology. You mentioned that studying one hour a day can make a big difference. What should students focus on during that time? I recommend starting with operating systems and computer systems. Students should learn how computers, servers, and networks function. Combining knowledge of programming, operating systems, and networking creates a strong foundation for a future career in technology and cybersecurity. Many engineering students worry about finding jobs after graduation. To stand out, students should begin developing practical skills as early as possible. Technical knowledge is important, but leadership and teamwork skills also matter. Being able to work with and manage teams can provide valuable advantages throughout a career.
